* SUMMARY *
As mandated by the Drinking Water Protection Act, a water supplier is required to submit and update an Emergency Response Plan (ERP). An ERP is a written document that directs water system personnel in responding to potential emergencies, disasters or abnormal operating conditions. The ERP is to provide guidelines that will minimize service disruptions to customers as well as protect public health and safety in case of an emergency situation.
Having an ERP in place will:
- Enhance water system security
- Minimize damage/repair costs
- Reduce insurance premiums
- Comply with DWPA
- Ensure due diligence of the operator
The emergency response plan includes a list of all people and agencies that should be contacted in the event of any kind of emergency. This includes system owners and operators, repair people, alternative water suppliers, media representatives and government agencies and the people who draw water from our system.
Potential emergency situations have been identified which could either make the water unsafe, prevent the flow of water, or pose a health risk. These include:
- Broken Water Main
- Contamination of Source - Biological Matter
- Chemical Contamination from a Chemical Spill or Act of Vandalism
- Flood Conditions - Landslide
- Pump Failure: Loss of Pressure
- Unsatisfactory Bacteriological Water Sample Result
- High Turbidity
- Structural Fire
- Disinfection System Failure
- Viral Epidemic / Pandemic / Influenza Outbreak
Communication plays a key role in how well we are able to respond during an emergency. We must be able to alert all the users on our system as soon as possible, especially if there is any possible risk to their health from drinking the water.
Please ensure that we have your correct contact information.
Our communications plan includes phoning the water users.

Local media—radio, television and newspapers—can also carry warnings to the public if the situation is serious enough.
Large sandwich board signs will be posted at the Community MailBox just before McGregor Road, and at the top of Dvortjetz Road.
Landlords are responsible for informing renters of any situation.
